Liberty In Law – Law of Legacy – Protection of Property

Is #Jesus a #socialist?  What does #God think about the #right to private property?  But wait, does the commandment against stealing only pertain to material things?  What are the only three ways to receive goods and services?  Are we allowed to not only possess property but to protect it?  The Bible has much to say about what how we should use those possessions, but it definitely follows that we have to own and protect property in order to use it to glorify God and to help others.  Can we steal from God?  Is it possible to steal from ourself?  If you think the Old Testament penalties for stealing were harsh, just remember that not measuring up to any part of God’s law means falling short of the Glory of God.  And if you don’t accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will still be guilty.  Let Brother Tommy remind you of all the areas you may have forgotten about like taxes, wages, gambling, and tithing.  Maybe you are sensing a theme through these messages on the Ten Commandments.  If it seems like it is impossible to keep any of these rules, you are correct.  But God sacrificed His Son to pay the penalty for us and give us the power to live abundantly.

Happy #Mother’sDay!  Is the #culture today honoring #mothers and #fathers?  Can we blame it on today’s prevailing attitude or do we ourselves fail to measure up to God’s ideal?  As we transition from the commandments that apply to our relationship with God, the command to honor father and mother leads us into the commandments that apply to our relationship with other people.  What does that say about God’s ideal for society that He puts primary importance on family over government or school?  What does honoring your parents look like?  Does this only apply to God loving parents?  Where would we be without them?  How does God feel about disrespectful offspring?  Does the Bible say anything about the parents’ responsibility?  Is there anything unique about this commandment?  What can we see that D. L. Moody noticed many years ago about obedient children and their outcomes?

The Joy of Jesus – Serenity In Your Contemplation – Ground For Greeting – In The Present

Have you ever heard of the #Doxology?  Praise #God from whom all #blessings flow!  Last time, we learned that God provides all His children’s needs.  This week we hear what our proper response should be.  It even ties back to Paul’s theme in Philippians about the Joy of Jesus. Joy in our lives comes from knowing our purpose.  Why are we here if not to glorify God?  Have you ever tried counting your blessings when you are feeling down?  It helps and you should take it further and thank the one who gave you those blessings.  How do we glorify God?  Does all the glory belong to God?  Why is it important to practice giving glory to God now?

Honor One Another

On #socialmedia and sometimes #irl (in real life) we treat anyone with a different opinion as an opponent.  How do you treat other people?  Is it important to you, is it important to #God?  When #Jesus was asked what is the most important commandment, He summarized the whole Bible in two actions:  love the Lord, your God with all your heart, mind, and soul and love your neighbor as yourself.  For the next several weeks, we are going to hear Brother Tommy tell us what the Bible says about the proper way to love others as ourselves.  How do we give honor to other people?  Is it possible to give what we don’t have?  Where do we seek our honor?  What does the Bible mean when it says, ‘in honor prefer one another’?  This advice goes against our nature and everything the World says we need to do.  It only makes sense when you take care of the first important commandment Jesus mentioned.

What’s That Roar?

Have you ever heard a #lion #roar?  I don’t mean an #imitation on tv or the computer.  I mean #live and in person.  It is powerful and you can feel it shake your whole body.  What can we learn about God from this amazing story about Amos?  Where does this roar come from?  Why is the roar being heard?  Is it a lack of church attendance or sacrificial giving or is it something more basic like turning their backs on God and treating others poorly?  Do you remember what Jesus said the two most important commandments are?  Does God judge the actions of men or the motivation?  How many of these sins being committed by these ancient nations can we see being done today?  How do we put human tradition ahead of divine instruction?  What is the only way to flee from God?

#Kids today, does that saying bring up positive or negative images?  #Mother’sDay and #Father’sDay have come and gone again.  Does the Bible say anything to children?  How does our early relationship to our Creator and to our family shape the rest of our life and future relationships?  Is God only for grownups?  What is the difference between honoring and obeying our parents?  Does the Bible give us an example of what that is supposed to look like?  How should children gain more responsibility?  What is their influence on their community?
