Word of Coronation

19840610 Word Of Coronation - Rev. Tommy Jones

Last week, we heard #JesusChrist speak His last words to us before His ascension to His throne in Heaven.  But, this week we hear what the angels said right after to give us hope for the future.  I mean, if Christ had told us to go out and tell the World and then went back to Heaven, that would be great.  Right?  But wait, there’s more.  Think about this miracle, Jesus ascended back to the Father in a physical body.  That should tell us something about the floating on a cloud and playing a harp idea.  How long was Jesus on Earth in His new body after the resurrection?  Where have we heard this number before?  Probably the most intriguing thing about the new body to Brother Tommy was the recorded incidence of Jesus eating.  What did His 40 days of appearances prove to anyone who is looking for God?  Why did He leave?  What did the angels say about the future that could be good news or bad depending on your current relationship to Jesus Christ?

Word of Commission

Why didn’t #JesusChrist give #instructions to His disciples before He was crucified?  How much more weight did it hold when He gave them marching orders after the Resurrection?  Where did Jesus have everyone meet for this delivery of a blueprint for the future?  What power does Christ claim to have?  Whose side does that make you want to be on?  To whom was this commission directed?  Once again Jesus packs a world of instruction into a short, simple directive.  What comforting promise is given along with this mandate?

How long did #JesusChrist stick around after His #resurrection, appearing to His disciples and various other people?  What were His #Last Words?  To whom did Jesus reveal Himself  on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection?  You would think it would be one of His inner circle, but it wasn’t.  How is this comforting to us?  How does this episode reflect how God concerns Himself with our mood?  How did they not know immediately who Jesus was?  Would the Lord have really kept going down the road and not revealed Himself if they had not invited Him to stay?  What emotional response told them that Jesus was who He said He was?  What did they do about it?

Today, we come to the very #LastWords of #Jesus on the cross.  But, thankfully they are not the last words Christ would speak on Earth.  What can these words teach us about how to live?  How to die?  What does this phrase have to do with a Hebrew bedtime prayer?  How does our relationship to God, the Father, affect our outlook on death?  How do we get a relationship with God (through Jesus Christ, His Son)?

Word of Completion

As important as #Jesus Christ’s work was on the #cross, why is it important that the story doesn’t end there?  What was the gravity of the statement ‘It is finished’?  How do we know from His choice of words that this is not an expression of victimhood?  Has there ever been another person on Earth who accomplished everything that they set out to do?  How did this pertain to the traditional order of the priesthood and the sacrificial system?

Word of Conquest

I don’t know how I missed it.  Somehow I got out of order on this series from Brother Tommy on the last words of #Jesus Christ.  Maybe I wanted to skip the darkest words he spoke from the cross.  But without these dark words, we cannot fully comprehend what was accomplished on that day.  Without these words could we truly grasp the suffering that Jesus faced by sacrificing Himself for us?  How does Jesus refer to God differently in this statement than so many other recorded times?  What does that tell us about the nature of God?

Word of Championship

Who is your #Champion?  Is it #MichaelPhelps or #UsainBolt?  Maybe it is #Jesus, but is it the baby Jesus of #Christmas or maybe it is the risen Savior Jesus of #Easter?  But what was the purpose of God’s only Son coming to Earth in human form?  What mistake do we make when we focus too much on one moment in history?  Ironically, how tall was a traditional cross?  What statement did Christ make on the cross that shows He knows what we will all go through when we leave this plane?
