20050710 Triumphant Suffering - Of An External Nature - Pointed Toward Proclamation - Rev. Tommy Jones

PSA – Don’t forget #Valentine’sDay is coming up to avoid unnecessary external suffering.  But seriously, why is there so much #suffering in this world?  If suffering is the result of a fallen world, why do Christians suffer?  How does Christian suffering help to spread the Gospel?  What’s wrong with the phrase, ‘under the circumstances’?  Did Paul’s jailing help or hinder the spread of the Gospel?  Where would we be without some of his jailhouse epistles?  How did he view his jailers, as oppressors or opportunities? Is courage contagious just like fear?  What did Paul say about preachers of his day that taught about Jesus plus something else?  Do we have people around us today like that?  How can we rejoice about suffering?

Biblical Basis for Missions – New Testament Scriptures

Bible Audio Blog

Beyond the #Gospel, the first four books of the New Testament, which go through the account of Jesus’ birth, life, death, resurrection, and commission what else in the second half of the #Bible gives us reasons to spread the Good News?  What did we learn from the example of the disciples after Christ returned to Heaven?  When did the message of Salvation begin to be disseminated to people other than the Jews?  How can we apply the example and teachings of Paul to our own lives?  Are the rest of the New Testament scriptures missions minded, even Revelations?

The Winning Witness’ Travail

Bible Audio Blog

19810222 Winning Witnesses - The Witness' Travail - Rev. Tommy Jones

What kind of #labor or travail does a #winning #witness have to go through even though they have the truth of God’s Word and the strength of the Holy Spirit?  From where should our burden for the lost come?  What makes this burden grow?  How much was Paul concerned for the lost?  How about Jesus?  Is this travail meant to bring us down?  How strongly did Paul wish that he could save everyone?  When you listen to Paul’s description of his fellow Israelites in their lost state, do you see any parallels to our current society?

Housekeeping note:  I did not have one of these messages titled the Winning Witness’ Target, but if you listen, Brother Tommy recaps it at the beginning of this message.

Ethics From the New Testament

Bible Audio Blog

19800514 ROR - As Encouragement To Ethics - Textual Considerations From The New Testament - Rev. Tommy Jones

Last week, we learned that #ethics are the standard by which we judge behavior.  What can we learn about ethics by looking at the New Testament of the Bible?  How did Jesus Christ approach the subject of ethics?  How do we as a society approach this subject?  Did Jesus strike down all of the laws from the Old Testament or did He build on those laws?  What did Paul say about the law and how did it compare to what Jesus said?  What about the other writers of epistles in the New Testament?  What was common among all the lessons Christ gave on ethics?  To whom are we responsible?  Speaking of ethics, why doesn’t the New Testament condemn slavery more strongly?

Next week we will look at what the Bible says about ethics and whether they are affected by situations.
