The LIVING GOD #PROMISED

Do you #tell others, “Sure I’ll do a certain thing with or for you.”  Yet, it never happens!  Are you a#procrastinator, people #pleaser, #liar or just a self-centered #opportunist?  Does your #word reflect your #performance?   My mother left an indelible imprint on me by her promise keeping actions.  When I was in the second grade, Mother promised me that we would go to the Rex Theatre for a Friday night movie with popcorn! (there was no tv or video)  In my young mind that week seemed like a month waiting for showtime.  Wouldn’t you know something would come along to shadder my dream …It started to snow and it would not stop!  We did not have a car and were planning to walk.  Mother being a practical mother said we would have to postpone.  I was heartbroken then she said, “Get your snowboots and bundle up!  I promised and we will go together hand in hand through the snow to the show.”   We were the only people in the theatre that night, and while popcorn has never smelled better, the love of my mother is the warmth that I remember, because she chose to keep a promise in spite of the circumstances.   The Bible tells us over and over how God keeps His Promises.  11Chronicles 6:4 “Blessed be the LORD GOD of Israel who has with His hands fulfilled that which He spoke with His mouth…” 10 “The LORD has performed His word that He has spoken …as the LORD PROMISED”  Heb. 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for the LORD who PROMISED IS FAITHFUL.”      Heb.12:1-15

Growing Christians

19830605 Growing Christians - Rev. Tommy Jones

Once we have received #JesusChrist as our personal #Lord and #Savior, what can we expect and what is expected of us?  How many conversions are involved?  What is happening when a Christian turns back to their old ways or never really changes?  If a Christian could lose their Salvation, what would that mean about Jesus’ sacrifice?  If the question of security has been answered, and it has, how do we then grow?

The LIVING GOD #WITNESS

#You #Count!  Do you ever feel no one notices you?  Are you isolated?  Feel trapped?  Well, God is witnessing your life!  When my precious family developed #Find Bible Truth, I thought that it was a wonderful way to share the Bible.  We live in separate cities; yet God is witnessing our combined desire to serve Him by proclaiming the truth of the Bible.  Because of God’s Grace and all of their conscientious devotion to His Word, FBT is being viewed around the world in over 54 countries.  Praise the Lord. Wherever you are in this world today – You Count!  I remember back in the 1960’s when my sister and bother-in-law went to Kenya as missionaries.  She was a concert pianist, beauty queen, honors student – he was graduated from Rice with honors and both graduates of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Their first year was spent living in a tent – (no cell phones)  When they returned home on furlough after four years, I asked them have you seen many accept Christ as their Savior?  She said hopefully, “Not Yet”  At the end of another four years, the seed of God’s word, their witness, and the Holy Spirit brought hundreds in Kenya to accept Christ as Lord and Savior providing a new everlasting life.  I can shout for joy that some of the strong Christian people that meet our president this week in Kenya have been touched by God’s Word living among them.  You Count!  “Behold, I the LORD have given him for a WITNESS to the people, a leader and commander.  You shall call a nation that you do not know and nations that do not know you shall run to you because of the LORD thy GOD .” Isaiah 55:4,5  “now in Christ Jesus you who were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.  He is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of division between us.  He came and preached peace to you which were far off for through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.  Now we are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints and of the household of God.” Eph.2:13-19   YOU COUNT

What is your #Zion?  Are you in a safe place far from the terrors of #ISIS and others that want to execute #Christians just for being Christ followers?  What is the danger of taking for granted this temporary security?  What are the parallels between the Israelites in Zion and Christians in our culture today?  Which is a better indicator of character, prosperity or adversity?  What is the danger in complacency?  What is the cure?

The LIVING GOD #LIBERTY

The power of #choice is #liberating.  As a six year old during WWll, I walked alone to and from school each day.  I was empowered by my freedom to walk, skip, jump or dawdle; however, I had to be on time for school and home.  At an early age, I learned that with liberty came responsibility to myself and others, but I found some scary scenarios along the way which brought me to depend on God.  Paul gives us sound advice in Galatians about LIBERTY IN CHRIST JESUS…”because of false brethren secretly brought in who came in privily to spy out our LIBERTY WHICH WE HAVE IN CHRIST JESUS, that they might bring us into bondage: to whom we gave no place that the truth of the gospel might continue with you”Gal.2:4,5  “Is the law then against the promises of God?  God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  But scripture has shut up all men under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.” 3:21,22  “STAND FAST IN THE LIBERTY WHEREWITH CHRIST HAS MADE US FREE, and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.  . .For you have been called unto LIBERTY; only do not use LIBERTY as an opportunity for the flesh, but by love serve one another.  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, ..You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself, but if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you be not consumed one of another…Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” 5:1,13-16

Results Of A Difficult Place

19821010 Results Of A Difficult Place - Rev. Tommy Jones

Nobody wants to go through #hardtimes.  But, they come along anyway.  The question of why it happened may help you to keep it from happening again or it may be something that was out of your control.  So, instead of focusing on why for too long, concentrate instead on how you should handle this difficult situation.  Does God want you to be bitter?  Of course not, but how can we look for the blessings in our circumstances?  That is going to be difficult if you don’t have the Holy Spirit working in and through you because of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  How can this attitude of gratitude lead to opportunities?
