Daily Devotion Discipline Finish

How can we #blend #Bible study and #prayer?  When should we pray during our Bible study?  With the exception of Jesus Christ, every person we read about in the Bible had flaws in addition to whatever virtue they may present.  Pastor Bruce at my church, says that there aren’t many people that God used in the Bible that could pass a background check to work in our children’s ministry.  How can we use this information in our prayers?  Are there any promises in the passage you are reading that you can claim?  Are there any conditions to that promise?  Is there an assurance that accompanies the commands we encounter from God while reading His Word?  How can we deal with distraction while studying?  How do we prevent a one way conversation with the Lord?  What posture is best for praying?  What three books assist with a daily devotional?  Do you use a prayer list?

THE LIVING GOD IS ANGRY

Do you ever get #angry?  I do today over #injustice!  It seems everyone today has their own idea about justice.  Words and their meaning have been distorted to be just the opposite from the original status.  What was right is wrong and wrong is right according to societal standards of the moment.  You say, “What does that have to do with the Lord and His Words?”  I say, “Everything!”  We were made in God’s image and have His attributes.  We need to look unto the Lord’s word for His answers in times like these.  God has given His Son to show His loving compassion to us, but when we reject His path of redemption we are lost in lies, schemes, distortions, masks, and wickedness!  Why, because the devil is a deceiver and will lead you into destruction!  That should make you angry, but many today seem to be enjoying His reckless ride!  Who is hurt by this deception?  From my observation, everyone in the path of  satan’s wiles is affected with torment.  Is God aware of all of the devil’s shenanigans?  Psalm 7:ll-13 says so, “God judges the righteous, and GOD IS ANGRY WITH THE WICKED EVERY DAY and if they turn not God will sharpen His sword and bend His bow to prepare against the persecutors.”  Ps.30:2-6 “O LORD my GOD, I cried to Thee for help, and Thou has held me and brought my soul from Sheol: and kept me alive that I should not go down to the pit.  Sing praise to the LORD you Godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name for GOD’S ANGER is for a moment.  HIS FAVOR IS FOR A LIFETIME.  Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. 10. O LORD, be my helper…turn my mourning into dancing…gird me with gladness that my soul may sing praise to Thee and be not silent to give praise and thanks to Thee forever.”

Strengthening Prayer Life 2 and 3

What is a great indicator of a #strong walk with the #Lord?  How is your prayer life?  How well do you communicate with the Almighty Creator of the Universe?  Does the Bible show us how to approach God in prayer?  We can all call on the greatest being out there.  But, is there a difference in the way a Christian and a non-Christian can speak to God?  What can we learn from the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus Christ gave us as an example of proper prayer?  One way to remember the order of the model prayer is ACTS which stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.

I know part 1 is missing, but I think you can still get a blessing from parts 2 and 3.  Next week, Lord willing, we will have the wrap up of Daily Devotional Discipline.

THE LIVING GOD WILL CARRY YOU

Well have you ever needed to be #carried?  I remember my mother telling me about her experience with me when I learned to walk.  We lived in Denver and she liked to walk on the sidewalk in the neighborhood with me; however, she said, I would just sit down about half way around the block causing her to have to pick me up and carry me home.  She said, “She would first walk on thinking I would get up and follow her, but I just sat there!”   What a picture of human nature.  Sometimes in life – we cannot walk on, but need to be carried.  Our loving Heavenly Father knows our weaknesses and will pick us up when we think we cannot go forward.  All the struggles and weariness from destructive forces around  us today can make one have to sit down, exhausted, and seek help greater than our own.  As a child, I gave out and needed to be carried, but now in my senior years I feel God lifting me up when I am in exhausted.  Isaiah 46:4,9 “EVEN TO YOUR OLD AGE I AM HE; AND EVEN TO YOUR GRAY HAIRS WILL I CARRY YOU; I HAVE MADE (you), AND I WILL BEAR (you); EVEN I WILL CARRY (you), AND WILL DELIVER YOU.    Remember the former things of old: for I AM GOD, and there is none else; I AM GOD, and there is none like ME…MY COUNSEL SHALL STAND.”  May we realize GOD’S LOVING CARE.

1 Plans to #guide

2 Principles to #enrich

3 Procedures to #strengthen (the hand method:  hearing, studying, applying, meditating, and memorizing)

*Lesson 3 is missing, sorry about that.

4 Practices to aid

Do you appreciate the Word of God?  How many different roles does the Bible say it assumes?  The Word of God says that it is a mirror, water, nourishment, and a lamp among other things.  Are you a critic of the Bible or is it a critic of you?  There is only one weapon given to us against the enemy, can you use it?  Do you know hw to appropriate the Bible and its secrets?  In this day and age, appropriation is frowned upon, but not so with the Word of God.  Have you ever written in your Bible?  How about starting a journal? What are some good questions to ask about the passage you have chosen to read?  Pick a verse and memorize it.
