His Internal Ministry – The Pertinence Of The Holy Spirit – Growing Upward Graces

Bible Audio Blog

This week we look at the three remaining facets of the #fruit of the #Spirit and we see that all of these graces have one thing in common, they cannot be bought.  So #money or the lack thereof is of no consequence when it comes to obtaining them.  The last three of these, Brother Tommy calls upward graces because they have to do with our relationship with the Lord.  What does it mean to be faithful?  What is the counterfeit of faithfulness and what is the opposite of it?  Meekness is defined by most people as weakness, but the Bible says it is the opposite of that.  It also has an opposite and a counterfeit.  And finally, what is temperance and its opposite and counterfeit?  What does the Bible say about attempting self-control without the help of the Holy Spirit?

THE LIVING GOD’S DOOR

from Barbara's Bible

What is behind the #door?  There is a game show on TV called ‘Let’s Make a  Deal’ where the contestant has a choice of three prizes which are behind 3 stage curtains.  Behind one curtain there is a gag surprise!  Behind another curtain is a prize but not the best.  Behind one of these three is the grand prize of the day!  I think this game is very similar to life.  We all make choices and decisions every moment of our life which are good, bad, fleeting, or lasting.  What am I talking about?  Doors…  Which one do we open? choose?  walk through?  What does that have to do with the Lord?  Everything everlasting!  The Bible tells me so….In the Temple in Jerusalem there were two huge doors separating God from man.  Only the high priest could enter the holy of holies on the Day of Atonement, but the New Testament records that the heavy curtain was torn open from top to bottom at the exact time of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross by the sacrificial lamb of God.  Messiah became our door to heaven if we choose Him, because He took on all our sin which was separating us from GOD.  “Jesus said,  I AM THE DOOR of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not listen to them.  I AM THE DOOR:  by ME IF ANY ENTER IN, HE SHALL BE SAVED, and shall go in and out, and be nourished.  The thief comes not, but for to steal and to kill and to  destroy:  I AM COME THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE LIFE and that more abundantly” John 10:7-10  Choose you this day the right DOOR – JESUS !

This week we look at three more facets of the #fruit of the #Spirit or as one scholar said #flowers in the #garden.  If you recall, Brother Tommy calls these parts of the fruit graces.  What is long-suffering and how is it similar to patience?  How do we know God is long-suffering?  What causes impatience?  How does faith in the Lord and the fruit of the Spirit counteract the World’s call, i.e. the news and social media, to be impatient with government and our own neighbors?  What is so attractive about gentleness and what are the opposite works of the flesh?  Can gentleness be counterfeited and for what reason?  What does true gentleness look like?  The sixth grace is goodness.  That word can be rather generic.  But, when you look at the opposite and the counterfeit, it becomes much more clear.

THE LIVING GOD’S JOY

Do you have #joy right now?  I am not seeing many #smiles as I’m mingling with others this year.  I walked into the entrance of a very busy shopping complex this week where four other ladies were standing and all were looking on their phones.  They never even looked up to make eye contact much less smile or acknowledge anyone.  I see isolation among us.  What about you?  Are you happy?  Where does joy come from?  Let’s see what the Bible tells us.  In Nehemiah chapter 8 tells us that Nehemiah (the governor) and Ezra (the priest and scribe) said unto all the people the words of the law of Lord given to Moses..10.”Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared for this day is holy unto the LORD:  neither be you sorry; FOR THE JOY OF THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH….and all the people went their way to eat, and drink and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.”  Read the Word, Celebrate His Gift, Share His Love – produces JOY.  Jesus Christ said, “If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in His love.  These things I have spoken unto you, that MY JOY MIGHT REMAIN IN YOU, AND THAT YOUR JOY MIGHT BE FULL.  My commandment is that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:10-12  It is a MERRY CHRISTMAS when you have the JOY of the LORD.  Smile Jesus loves you and share with another.

What is the difference between #gifts of the Spirit and #graces or #fruit of the Spirit?  And why is it fruit and not fruits?  What do the first three graces have in common in terms of character?  Why does Paul list off a laundry list of obnoxious works of the flesh right before he lists off the fruit of the Spirit?  What is counterfeit fruit and from where does it come?  Ahh, love – who doesn’t want that?  What is its opposite work of the flesh?  How does Satan confuse us with its counterfeit?  What does the real fruit look like?  What about joy and peace?
