The LIVING GOD #COMFORT

Do you need #comfort?  My #wants and my #needs are sometimes intermingled.  I need comfortable shoes – I want an easy chair – I need a comfortable pillow – I want comfort food – I need and want God’s comfort...  “whatever was written beforetime was written for our learning, that we through PATIENCE and COMFORT of the SCRIPTURES might have HOPE.  Now the GOD of PATIENCE and COMFORT grant you to be like-minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus; that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  So receive one another as Christ received us to the glory of God.” Rom.15:4-7   “Now  may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us ETERNAL COMFORT and good hope by grace, COMFORT and STRENGTHEN YOUR HEARTS in every good work and word.”  2Thess.2:16,17

19850924 Tongue Talk - Boasting Is Tricky Business - Rev. Tommy Jones

Whether you #humblebrag or just #showoff, be aware the Lord will deal with the proud.  But, is boasting ever ok?  Would it surprise you to learn that God himself boasts?  It feels pretty good when your boss brags on you. Just imagine how it would feel to have the God of the Universe to be proud of you.  So what are good things about which to brag?   And on the flip side, what are the bad or forbidden topics?  How can you avoid sinful boasting?  Watch what you are bragging about and which direction you are pointing when you do it.

The LIVING GOD #CANDLE

#Strife, #Violence, #Destruction are constantly before us today.  No wonder we get #weary.. As I read God’s Bible, I find these words of #wisdom.  Prov.17:11 “An evil man seeks only rebellion”  Prov.17:15 “He that justifies the wicked, and he that condemns the just are both an #abomination to the Lord.”  Romans 13:9-14 “Let us walk honestly in the day; not rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envy.  You shall love your neighbor as yourself – love works no evil to his neighbor..Now is high time to awake out of sleep…..the night is far spent the day is at hand: let us cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armor of LIGHT ..put on the LORD JESUS CHRIST.”  11Sam.22:29 “For THOU ART MY CANDLE, O LORD; and the LORD will lighten my darkness”

Tongue Talk – Sense in Nonsense

Before you think our guest speaker is #DarthVader, just know these old tapes drag sometimes.  #Wit, or #humor, is a wonderful #tool we possess to make our speech more interesting and memorable.  Does the Bible encourage us to use jokes?  I can just imagine God laughing on his throne as the proponents of evolution struggle to figure out the platypus.  What can be warded off using laughter?  But , wasn’t Jesus always serious?  In contrast, what kind of humor is prevalent today?  How can we keep a good thing like humor from getting twisted into something wrong?

The LIVING GOD #TESTS

Georgia has stopped the #test for seniors to receive their high school diploma and even made it retro active for all those who completed the required attendance and courses.  No one likes tests, yet life is filled with testing.  Tests are difficult, yet we want certified professionals in every field.  What does the Bible say about testing?  Jer. 11:20 “the LORD OF HOSTS TESTS THE MIND AND HEART”…17:10″I the LORD TEST the MIND even to give each man according to his ways according to the results of his deeds”  Are you the exception?  Jer.20:12 “LORD TESTS THE RIGHTEOUS”  Prov.17:3 “Refining pot is for silver, and furnace for gold; but the LORD TRIES (TESTS) THE HEARTS”  1Peter1:6-9 “…you have been distressed by various trials that TEST YOUR FAITH, being more precious than gold that is perishable, even though TESTED by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen HIM, you love HIM and though you do not see HIM now, but believe in HIM, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of  glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your soul.”  Now that’s a graduation diploma with the LORD’S SEAL.
