Historical – Remember the definition we use to categorize these groups into a cult or ism is that they overemphasize certain parts of the Bible and/or use extra texts  to achieve what they believe.  What is the Watch Tower?  Don’t they believe the whole Bible?  What do they believe about the Trinity of God?  What do they believe about Jesus Christ?  What do they believe about Man’s role in eternity?  What do they say about Hell?  What is important about the year 1914?  Part I is about the history of this group.  Parts II, III, and IV cover their theology and how to approach these people with love and the truth.  As I have said before the  lessons in this series were not meant to arm you for confrontation of these groups, but rather to allow you the tools to share the good news of Jesus Christ and the Salvation He brought us.

Catholicism part I.  Why is Catholicism included in this study of cults and isms?  How did it start?  How has it changed?  What do they officially believe?  How does it differ from what the Bible teaches?  Remember when you are listening to the statistics about this or any other group that these numbers are from 1974.  A few things have changed since then, like which group is growing the fastest, but the beliefs of these people and the need to love them and witness to them has not changed.  Listen to parts II and III for more information.  Also where Brother Tommy references a film or guest speaker in this series, I am sorry but I don’t have access and/or permission to share these with you.  But as you may have  noticed Tommy was very good at recapping prior lessons.

This week’s topic in the series on cults and isms is Seventh Day Adventism.  Why are they included in this study on cults and isms?  Well as Brother Tommy said when he started this series, these groups have been included either for their belief in other texts or ideas for Salvation or because of their exaggeration of the importance of certain beliefs over others.  How did they get started?  What do they believe about salvation?  Are they a cult or just a Christian group with an emphasis on legalism?  Our Savior Jesus Christ did not come to start a religion, He came to show us how to live and receive Eternal Life with God.  We should want the same for our family, friends, and neighbors.  This set of lessons intends to inform you of what different people believe and encourage you to love them and give you the tools to explain to them the true path to Salvation.
