The last and most welcome lesson of this series – The Place of Blessing.  Who doesn’t need a blessing or two?  God wants to bless us, but we have to be ready to receive it.  But what has He promised us?  Peace, Joy, Strength; literally a piece of Heaven on Earth.  And how do we prepare to receive it?

Yielding or surrender – it is against our human nature.  But remember Pride was the original sin and is at the root of every sin after that.  The first yielding we need to do is to yield our life to the Savior, Jesus Christ (see The Gift section on the homepage).  After that we are to yield daily to God’s purpose and will for our life.   Are you ready to live rather than just exist?  A yielded life brings hope, belief,  purpose, power, and satisfaction.  Sounds great, doesn’t it?  Find out how in this lesson about Caleb.

“You have never passed this way before.”   Does that scare you or make you more faithful?  Where is your trust?  Is it in the one who is worthy, Jesus Christ?  The Jordan  River was an insurmountable obstacle for the Israelites.  It represents to us many things: physical death, death to self, even a problem we are facing in our daily lives.  This week Brother Tommy tells us how the Israelites lived by faith to get past their obstacles and how we can prioritize our lives to get through ours.

The will of God will not take you where God cannot keep you.  Today’s lesson is from Joshua chapter 1 where we find Joshua taking up the cloak of leadership after the death of Moses.  Brother Tommy gives us some sound theological assurances for dealing with life’s troubles.  Listen for the interesting story of what crisis means in the original Chinese.  Another good story this week is the little old lady that wrote “T & P” in her bible.  Do you trust God enough to go where He is leading?

Sometimes we feel the need for the Lord’s leadership in our lives more urgently than other times, but we need it daily.  We need His leadership in everything from food and shelter to employment and relationships.  Brother Tommy teaches how to ask for God’s leadership and how to recognize it (also see a great series on guidance posted earlier in this blog of archived messages).  The Lord doesn’t promise an easy life just that He will be there leading us through it.

The World, the Flesh, and the Devil are the three enemies of the Christian.  We should expect attack whenever we grow in the Lord.  Not being attacked lately?  Look at your relationship with the Lord.  Brother Tommy covers the ways and times we are attacked.  But he doesn’t stop there, of course.  He goes on to tell us how we are to engage the enemy.

Now this is a subject to which we can all relate, eating.  You may last a day or two without food, but eventually your body requires fuel.  Food is a need, not a want.  Do you have faith that God will provide for all your needs?  He has promised to provide our needs, not our wants and I have found that He is up to the task.  But beyond the physical application of this message about food, God provides us the daily bread of His Son, Jesus Christ.  Check out the correlations between the description of Manna and the characteristics of Jesus.  Wow, listen to the sheer volume of this miracle of feeding the millions of Israelites everyday in the desert.

Is it all just work, work, work until we get to Heaven?  How and when is it safe for us to take a break?  If you are a Child of God, by which I mean admitting your sins, asking God’s forgiveness, and handing over the control of your life to Jesus Christ, you can know by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  He has promised us direction and protection.  What more could you need for a good rest?
