Don’t overlook the rest of your salvation!  In this last part of the series on ‘The Normal Christian Life” we learn about 3 stages of salvation.  The first stage is marvelous and wonderful and is sufficient for saving your soul from eternal separation from God.  But the second shows us how we can triumph over sin here and now.  And the third points to how we will be freed from all the ugly consequences of sin in the future.  That is salvation begun, continued, and completed.  Here Brother Tommy will concentrate on how to live salvation continued.  (Phillipians 1:6 and Romans 5:10)

This is part 10 of 10, the final message in this series.  I pray that you have received as much wisdom and spiritual guidance from these lessons as I have putting them into blog form.

The Promised Land:  a land flowing with milk and honey that was promised to the Israelites when they fled captivity in Egypt.  How does that parallel what has been promised to us as Christians fleeing the captivity of sin and worldly things?  So many people think the Promised Land is heaven and we have to wait until death or the Lord’s second coming to enjoy rich blessings and happiness.  Brother Tommy shows us here that if we don’t know the joy of the Christian Life then we are not living it ‘Normally.’ What is the connection between revelation, crisis, and process?  Listen around the 25 minute mark for what this is not:  a final decision, sinless perfection, a second act of grace.  But it is infinitely better than struggling through in our own strength.

This is Part 9 of a 10 part discipleship series.  You see Jesus had disciples and it is our duty as Christians to help each other grow by sharing the Lord’s words on the subject.  Listen around the 18 minute mark to hear more about Brother Tommy’s thoughts on this.  I pray the Lord has used this series to bless you as much as He has blessed me.

If you haven’t asked God’s forgiveness of your sins based on the sacrifice of His only son, Jesus Christ and asked Him to become your personal savior—back up.  This series is not yet for you.  I pray that you will look over this website and your bible and decide that you need forgiveness and salvation from this world.  For those that have asked Christ into their life, read on.

What is your greatest single problem in living the Christian Life?  Surprisingly we all have the same root problem.  In order to live the Christian life the way God designed it (in other words the Normal Christian Life) we have to surrender all.  Why can’t we just surrender the bad parts?  How do we do surrender?  How often?

We enter the ‘Normal’ Christian life through surrender and ….. faith.  Last week we concentrated on surrender.  This week we learn about how to use our faith.  Claim it and receive it.  Listen for what Brother Tommy says about the difference between faith in Jesus and faith about Jesus.  He gives a great visual here when he talks about frozen lakes and faith.  When I heard the section on facts, faith, and feelings and the order in which God puts them, I was reminded of a conversation I had with my mother, Brother Tommy’s wife just last week.  We were discussing modern culture’s increasing reliance on feelings for every decision which is directly contrary to God’s desire for us.  What governs your life?

Part 6, Life out of death?  Brother Tommy asks, “Can I convince you that you would be better off dead?”  What?  Just listen for the explanation.  Reverend Jones explains several of the Bible’s many allegories about seeds and relates them to the normal Christian life.

Part 5 is about how to enter into the “Normal Christian Life” through surrender.  In other words “let go and let God.”  This message is full of great examples to illustrate Biblical concepts.  I especially liked Brother Tommy’s story about medicine.  To experience His presence we have to recognize His possession. What about that one thing you can’t or won’t release?  Will God accept partial surrender?

Just a note to let you know some of what was going on when God was molding Tommy.  You may have heard Tommy say that he made the decision to surrender to God’s control of his life and ministry in October of l963.  What you didn’t know was the tumult  that our family was facing.   Tommy felt he could take care of his wife, three yr. old daughter  and a  new son  while pastoring a new congregation in Midland, Texas..   He soon found out that humanly it was impossible.  Our son was born in Sept. of 1963, a beautiful 8 lb 16oz armful who could not keep anything on his stomach.  Instead of gaining weight he was losing.  With each trip to the doctor other treatments would be tried.  After eight weeks  the surgeon was called.  We had a child that was projectile vomiting everything he swallowed and was down to six pounds.  He had pyloric stenosis and the surgeon was able to release it; however, upon returning home he had to be fed a few ounces every twenty minutes around the clock.  You can imagine how much sleep you can get on that schedule.  At the follow-up visit, the doctors told us that the trauma to his early development had not allowed his body to heal the opening between the two chambers of his heart.  This would mean that he could not be in the church nursery or around others for at least a year.   In the midst of all the stress,  Tommy turned to God and  relied on God’s word  2 Corinthians 12:9 ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.  Most gladly therefore I rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me ….for when I am weak then I am strong.”   God has been so good, our son is now a mature christian man with  two children of his own..  I want to thank  Jeffrey for using his time and talents to make these sermons available to you over the blog.  To God be the glory.      Barbara  Jones

In part 4 we learn what to expect from the “Normal Christian Life.”  So far in this series we have found out that God does not just want us to be saved from our sin.  He has a plan for us to have a better life here on earth, which is what Brother Tommy calls the normal Christian Life.

Who lives the “Normal” Christian Life?  That answer is what we find out today in this archived message from Rev.Tommy Jones.  Listen for a handy illustration near the 24 minute mark.  As Barbara Jones shared with me today Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever.”
