This week’s topic in the series on cults and isms is Seventh Day Adventism. Why are they included in this study on cults and isms? Well as Brother Tommy said when he started this series, these groups have been included either for their belief in other texts or ideas for Salvation or because of their exaggeration of the importance of certain beliefs over others. How did they get started? What do they believe about salvation? Are they a cult or just a Christian group with an emphasis on legalism? Our Savior Jesus Christ did not come to start a religion, He came to show us how to live and receive Eternal Life with God. We should want the same for our family, friends, and neighbors. This set of lessons intends to inform you of what different people believe and encourage you to love them and give you the tools to explain to them the true path to Salvation.

What are the Orthodox, Conservative, and Reformed groups of Judaism? What do we have in common? How can we use that to start a dialogue? Sorry about the audio quality, but it clears up around the 1 minute mark.

Dilemma and Dialogue- Here Brother Tommy presents helpful insights into who the Jewish people are and how to love them and speak to them about the true path to Salvation. For instance, what makes a Jew Jewish? Is it their Faith, Nationality, or Lineage? What have they gone through as a people? Also check the comments section for the next installment on some theological beliefs they hold and how we can witness to them or evangelize them. I intend to include everything in this series on one specific religion per week. Also wherever Brother Tommy mentions guest speakers, I will skip these lessons because I don’t have their permission to relay them to you. But Tommy goes into sufficient detail in his teaching to cover the subject.

Today we start a very important series of messages that Brother Tommy delivered from 1974 to 1975 on Cults and Isms. These are groups that at the time were growing rapidly (and still are today) through some incorrect ideas about God and his plan of Salvation. These messages are still relevant today to help us understand them for our protection, mutual conversation, but mostly for evangelizing them. Throughout this set of lessons, Brother Tommy emphasizes the importance of loving the people involved in these groups and witnessing to them. Bear covers the significant six: Judaism, Catholicism, Seventh Day Adventism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormonism, and Christian Science. Then he will cover several others that were less prevalent at the time including Satanism, witchcraft, and Black Muslim. Listen for the seven questions you can use to discover if the group in question is a cult. How do they deceive their followers? How do they attract followers? WARNING: This series contains stark truths about what others believe. As always check everything you hear, including these teachings of Brother Tommy, with God’s Word, the Bible. Lord, I pray that we can come to a better understanding of these people and what they believe. Give us a love and desire for them to come to salvation the way you intended. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What other historical reference talks about the beginning of people gathering together in groups called families? Why do we need others? What about single people? Last week we heard about the making of Man, but from where did Woman come? How do they relate to one another and how do they differ? How does this relate to Christ and the Church? Listen to this fourth in the series from 1975 as Brother Tommy expounds on some of the deeper truths of Genesis.
