This week, we are wrapping up Brother Tommy’s series on #ethics, Biblical vs. non-biblical.  A personal #conviction is after all a conclusion you have made ahead of time based on your ethics.  Where should these convictions come from?  What if it is something that is not specifically prohibited in the Bible?  Should you persuade others to agree with your convictions?  Are negatives always necessary?  What is one sure way to make sure that you are making the right ethical decisions both negative and positive?  What are the three questions you can use to make ethical decisions?  What are adopted convictions?  How do you start forming your own conclusions?

Next week:  a brand new topic

19800730 ROR - As Encouragement To Ethics - Tactical Considerations - Develop Your Conscience - Rev. Tommy Jones

What is a #conscience and can it change over time?  What does the #Bible say about the existence of our conscience?  How does it differ from the way we were raised or taught?  Can the enemy use our conscience against us?  Can a dulled conscience be trained and sharpened again?  Should we follow the Word of God or our own conscience when they differ?  Do non-Christians have a conscience?

Next week we will look at what the Bible says about developing conclusions.

What does the #Bible say about how our #ethics ought to shape #society? How should we treat the disadvantaged and downtrodden? How should we interact with government? What could be wrong with a super patriotic point of view? Is it better to work toward a New World Order? How separate should church and state be? Brother Tommy touches on some recent headlines form healthcare to automation. He also gets into the topic of war, capital punishment, and imprisonment.

Sorry for the delay and sudden reappearance of these blogs.  Next week we will look at what the Bible says about developing a conscience.

How do we develop #habits and why do some of those turn into #addiction?  One man’s pleasure can be another man’s pain.  So how do we define pleasure? Does the Bible say to avoid all pleasure?  What are some tests we can apply to something that brings us pleasure to see if it is a negative behavior?  What about the ‘Fearsome Foursome,’ :  Tobacco, Alcohol, Drugs, and Gambling?

Next week we will start to look at what the Bible says about tangible ethics of a vocational nature.

Sexual Nature

Is #sex a good or bad thing?  Why did #God create sex?  How can it be misused and what are the dangers of that?  What are five different views on sex and from where did they come?  Is there a distinction that can be made between fornication and adultery?  What does the Bible say about sex inside and outside of marriage?  How about sex that is not between male and female within a marriage?  Now, before you argue that this message was delivered 47 years ago, remember that the scriptures listed herein come from the unchanging Word of God, the Bible.  Why did God place restrictions on this particular aspect of the human experience?  What are some of the dangers of non-biblical views on sexuality?  Is there anything wrong with hedonism, birth control, abortion, homosexuality, or masturbation?  What is the biblical prescription for properly aligning our sexual nature?

Next week we will start to look at what the Bible says about tangible ethics of an habitual nature.

Personal Nature

This week may be a little less #blackandwhite than previous messages.  Brother Tommy jumps right in with a discussion of #suicide and different types of it.  Interestingly, when it comes to end of life decisions, it might interest you to know that Brother Tommy put into practice what he said here.  Are there any ethical considerations involved in the transplanting of organs?  When he gets around to talking about funerals, you should know Brother Tommy wanted to be laid to rest in a plain pine box in the backyard.  Spoiler:  he didn’t quite get his way.  But enough about death, next we move on to status and how and whether it should be sought.  And what does the Bible say about marriage and divorce?  Is there an ethical consideration to how we shape our lifestyle?

Next week we will start to look at what the Bible says about tangible ethics of a sexual nature.

Honorable Nature

Bible Audio Blog
19800611 ROR - As Encouragement To Ethics - Tactical Considerations - Of An Honorable Nature - Rev. Tommy Jones

What is an #honorable or #honest life?  Listen to the three examples Brother Tommy gives about #fiscal responsibility, #immigration, and #economics.  How does dishonesty start?  What does the Bible say about honesty?  How does an honorable life go beyond the honest life?  What does the Bible say about slander, deceit, and even not speaking when we should?  So, we can disobey God whether we are speaking or not.  How can we lead a life of integrity?  Why is it so important to practice at home as well as at work?  The last half of this message must have been written by his wife, my mother, Barbara.  It is about teaching all of this to your children.

Next week we will start to look at what the Bible says about tangible ethics of a personal nature.
