There is a little word play going on here.  Of course there is, Brother Tommy loved words and word play.  Winsome is defined as ‘attractive or appealing in appearance or character.’  Also as he says in the message it is the purpose of a Christian witness to ‘win some’ people to Christ.  This series of 7 messages from 1974 has some great reminders for us.  What should we have in common with John The Baptist?  What was his commitment and conduct?  Is that enough?  What is our biggest job?  What is the difference between Christ’s message and all the others people are faced with everyday?

This message is directed at Christ followers and encouraging them to tell others about the hope they have found in Jesus Christ.  If you want that hope for yourself, click on this link:

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

19820530 What Must I Do To Be Saved - Rev. Tommy Jones

Nobody likes to admit that they have done something wrong.  What happens at midnight when it becomes obvious we have either done something wrong or failed to do something right?  This Philippian jailer asked Paul, “what must I do to be saved?”  Is the word ‘do’ misleading?  Who has not thought about what will happen after this life?  We read and hear this question all the time in books and the media, but here Paul, by the grace of God gives us the answer.  What does it mean to believe?

Paul said in his letter to the Phillipians that he had learned to be content whether he had a little or a lot.  Have we learned that lesson?  Giving is key.  Stewardship is not God’s means of raising money, it is God’s means of raising children.  What is a key indicator of all living things?  Is giving a sign of life or a sign of faith?  Is it done out of sympathy or sacrifice?  Is giving all one way?  How does your gift smell?  What are some rewards for giving?  What does motivation have to do with it?

Priorities are important, before you give money to the Lord you should know there is something else He wants you to give.  Find out more by clicking here:

Giving Prescribed

Brother Tommy usually spoke about Christian Stewardship around the first of every year.  So when he jokes about a hot message, just know it was snowing outside that day (rare in Macon, GA).  Why does God want us to give to His church?  Who gave order to the Universe?  How does our giving relate to that order?  Is the timing important?  How is giving a high honor?  What are we really giving when we give to the Lord?  When is hoarding a good thing?  Are we afraid to pledge an amount to the church?  How much have we pledged to other institutions for things much less valuable?  Why does the church need our money?

If you don’t now the Lord as your personal Lord and Savior all this talk about tithing is out of order.  Find out more by clicking here:

Let’s make clear a few phrases that are often tossed around in church, sometimes synonymously.  First off every good thing comes from God.  He asks for a sign of our faithfulness by giving 10% of it back to be given to your regular church.  This is called a tithe.  God has promised to take care of His faithful followers in return.  Many times I have heard Brother Tommy say that this is the only promise God gives for which He asks us to test Him.  Second, gifts and offerings are often mentioned.  These are above and beyond the tithe and given to your church or other people and organizations doing the Lord’s work.  Brother Tommy also said that ‘You can’t outgive God.’  How do we invest in our spiritual future?  How does giving lead to happiness?  How can we rob God?  Was tithing an Old Testament concept?  What if God based your income on your gifts to the church?  What is a love offering?  What else does God’s Word say about the use of our money?

If you don’t know the Lord as your personal Lord and Savior all this talk about tithing is putting the cart before the horse.  Find out more by clicking here:

A New Year Without Fear

Happy New Year!  What is a new year but an opportunity?  How will you grab it?  How does the Lord want us to approach it?  How many times does the Bible say ‘Fear not’?  What fears should we have and not have?  If we worship the God of love, what does ‘fear the Lord’ mean?  What damage can the wrong fear do?  I think it is interesting that the term for coins in the Bible was talents.  it makes the parable Brother Tommy refers to so much more relatable.  How do we fight fear properly?  Faith!  But faith in whom?

The Christ Of Christmas Is Coming Again

19851222 The Christ Of Christmas Is Coming Again - Rev. Tommy Jones

As we celebrate the first coming of Jesus Christ over 2000 years after it happened, let’s take a few minutes to ask ourselves why we call it the first coming?  That implies that Jesus Christ will come again.  The Bible does more than imply it.  How will He return?  What does the Bible say will occur when Christ returns?  What will be the differences between His first and second coming?  Who was Simeon and what can we learn from him?  Are you saved, surrendered, and Spirt-filled?  How about sensitive to the Lord’s message?  Do you know what Simeon’s name means?  Do you know what it feels like to be satisfied?  Was Jesus Christ’s first coming welcomed by everyone?  Will His second coming be welcomed by everyone?  Who is guaranteed to see this second coming?

A Larger View Of Christmas

What do we think about when we reach this time of year?  Christmas trees, decorations, gifts?  What is the bigger picture?  What does an Old Testament book of the Bible have to do with the birth of the Savior in the New Testament?  Why would God send His Son to be born in a tiny little town like Bethlehem?  Why not in a palace to a royal family?  What does this passage say about our existence?  What does it say about Christ’s existence?  Why did Jesus come to Earth?  From what do we need to be delivered?  It is great to claim this deliverance from the judgment of sin but what about peace and power in our daily lives?
