The secret — Brother Tommy jumps right into it and tells us the secret of guidance in this week’s episode about God’s will.  Isn’t this reassuring that with all the disasters and unrest in today’s world that God has a plan for us and we can find out what it is?  I like the point he makes about how we should look to Jesus for every decision the way Jesus checked with God for every move.  When Brother Tommy speaks about bond slaves, I remembered a point from another sermon that pointed out that it is much better to be in bondage to the Lord by His sacrifice out of love than to be in bondage to sin and defeated.

I challenge you as you listen, to pause the message every time Brother Tommy mentions a bible verse and look it up for yourself.  Read the verse and those leading up to it and a few after as well.  This is a good test for any preacher.  Make sure that besides accurately quoting the verse(s), they also use them in context (the way they were intended).

Depicted means to create a picture of something and that is exactly what Brother Tommy does in this message about God’s will for us.  God’s will is purposeful, locational, and directional.  I like what he says about its purpose.  Do we live in a world of chaos or cosmos?  I looked up the world’s definition of cosmos and it is defined as the unverse seen as a well ordered whole.  Brother Tommy defines it even further with the word ‘providentially’ meaning ‘by God.’  Again we return to the vastness of space and time and our special predesigned place in it.  God’s will can be known from person to person and it is not a hidden mystery.  God wants you to know His will for your life even more than you want to find it.

On a side note this week is Barbara Jones’ birthday.  It would mean a lot to our family if you would take time after you listen to this message to contact her  with a short note through this website and wish her a Happy Birthday.  Please include your location.  I think it would be great for her to get greetings from all over the world.Comments

God’s Guidance Desired

Last week we learned about God’s intentional will and His permissive will.  Or another way of looking at it, His general and special will.  Today we learn why God’s will is something to be desired.  For instance, it is God’s ideal or intentional will that everyone be saved and that no one be destroyed by sin.  Personal aside:  if everyone knew what lay ahead, they would all desire salvation for themselves.  How can we know?  It is all laid out for us in the Lord’s Word, the Holy Bible.  Read it, study it, memorize it.

Does God care about us?  In an infinitely large universe, what do we matter to God?  Today we kick off another of Brother Tommy’s archived message series from 1979 (again still very relevant).  This series is 12 parts long and I am especially excited about the last three.  But first we have to lay down a foundation of understanding.  Here is God’s Guidance denied:

Don’t overlook the rest of your salvation!  In this last part of the series on ‘The Normal Christian Life” we learn about 3 stages of salvation.  The first stage is marvelous and wonderful and is sufficient for saving your soul from eternal separation from God.  But the second shows us how we can triumph over sin here and now.  And the third points to how we will be freed from all the ugly consequences of sin in the future.  That is salvation begun, continued, and completed.  Here Brother Tommy will concentrate on how to live salvation continued.  (Phillipians 1:6 and Romans 5:10)

This is part 10 of 10, the final message in this series.  I pray that you have received as much wisdom and spiritual guidance from these lessons as I have putting them into blog form.

The Normal Christian Life Part 9

The Promised Land:  a land flowing with milk and honey that was promised to the Israelites when they fled captivity in Egypt.  How does that parallel what has been promised to us as Christians fleeing the captivity of sin and worldly things?  So many people think the Promised Land is heaven and we have to wait until death or the Lord’s second coming to enjoy rich blessings and happiness.  Brother Tommy shows us here that if we don’t know the joy of the Christian Life then we are not living it ‘Normally.’ What is the connection between revelation, crisis, and process?  Listen around the 25 minute mark for what this is not:  a final decision, sinless perfection, a second act of grace.  But it is infinitely better than struggling through in our own strength.

This is Part 9 of a 10 part discipleship series.  You see Jesus had disciples and it is our duty as Christians to help each other grow by sharing the Lord’s words on the subject.  Listen around the 18 minute mark to hear more about Brother Tommy’s thoughts on this.  I pray the Lord has used this series to bless you as much as He has blessed me.

If you haven’t asked God’s forgiveness of your sins based on the sacrifice of His only son, Jesus Christ and asked Him to become your personal savior—back up.  This series is not yet for you.  I pray that you will look over this website and your bible and decide that you need forgiveness and salvation from this world.  For those that have asked Christ into their life, read on.

What is your greatest single problem in living the Christian Life?  Surprisingly we all have the same root problem.  In order to live the Christian life the way God designed it (in other words the Normal Christian Life) we have to surrender all.  Why can’t we just surrender the bad parts?  How do we do surrender?  How often?

We enter the ‘Normal’ Christian life through surrender and ….. faith.  Last week we concentrated on surrender.  This week we learn about how to use our faith.  Claim it and receive it.  Listen for what Brother Tommy says about the difference between faith in Jesus and faith about Jesus.  He gives a great visual here when he talks about frozen lakes and faith.  When I heard the section on facts, faith, and feelings and the order in which God puts them, I was reminded of a conversation I had with my mother, Brother Tommy’s wife just last week.  We were discussing modern culture’s increasing reliance on feelings for every decision which is directly contrary to God’s desire for us.  What governs your life?
