How can Brother Tommy say that the Bible is full of contradictions?  I thought he believed that the Bible was the true Word of God.  Oh wait, he means the Bible contradicts our normal nature and ways of thinking.  How does it contradict what we think about ourselves, Hell (and how we get there), Christ’s death on the cross, and even Heaven (and how we get there).  Those are the basics but how does it contradict what we have come to believe about living the Christian life?

Challenge To Christlike Vitality

Vitality means full of life.  How physically fit was Jesus Christ?  What strengths did He possess?  Brother Tommy makes a great point at the beginning about the artists’ representations we have today.  Bold, divisive, determined – which of these three words describes the Savior’s personality.  How did Jesus become the man He was?  How can we become more like Christ?  This is the last of this series on  becoming more Christlike, next week Brother Tommy will address contradictions found in the Bible.  Of course before you can be more like Jesus Christ, you have to have a personal relationship with Him.

Challenge To Christlike Graciousness

What is grace?  It encompasses kindness, forgiveness, and mercy.  God’s grace can be received by faith in His son, Jesus Christ.  God’s grace has been called unmerited favor.  In other words we did not do anything to justify God’s forgiveness and salvation, but because of the sacrifice of His son (instead of us) we can receive eternal freedom.  Here Brother Tommy goes through numerous examples of Jesus Christ mirroring His father’s graciousness.  To whom did Jesus show grace?  How did Jesus act with grace?  How should we apply these lessons to the people we run into everyday?  Do we only express kindness to our friends and family?  Worse yet are we only forgiving to acquaintances and people on the street?  This whole series reminds me of the saying’What would Jesus do?’  I think after next week’s final installment we will all have better answers to that question.  If you want to personally experience God’s saving grace, follow this link:

Laughter is a great medicine.  Where do we get the idea that Jesus Christ was always somber?  He went to many joyful events.  So much so that he was criticized for it.  How did Jesus use parables and nicknames to lighten the mood?  How about our weaknesses?  Jesus knew the value of humor in getting the message across and we should, too.

Challenge To Christlike Loneliness

Are you lonely?  We all experience this feeling at some point for various periods of time.  Are you lonely in a crowd?  Are you lonely amongst friends or even family?  What did Jesus Christ do when He was misunderstood, ostracized, or persecuted?  What happened when His best support was taken away?  Fortunately we do not have to go through that (separation from God) because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us.  If you want a friend that sticks closer than a brother, follow this link:

What drew people to Jesus Christ during His time here on Earth?  Did He seek attention, fame, or fortune?  What three elements made Jesus so magnetic?  Why was He so attractive, approachable, able?  How can we become more magnetic?  “We are the only sermon some people will ever hear.”  Or as my Sunday School teacher always liked to say we are Christmas trees, representing Christ to the world all the time all year long.  Now obviously you cannot hope to be more Christlike without first getting to know the One you want to emulate.  So if you want to know more about the Savior of the Universe and how to claim Him as your own, follow this link:

What good does prayer do?  Why should we pray?  If Jesus Christ, part of the Triune Godhead prayed, we should look at how He did it and follow that example.  When did He pray?  How often?  Is it ok to make requests?  What kind of requests should we make?  This message will help you focus your prayer life into what it should be.  But if you have not yet asked Jesus Christ to be your personal Savior and Lord there is one very special prayer you need to say first, follow this link

One Nation Under God

Mid-week Bonus!  Here in America, we celebrate our country’s anniversary of independence on July 4th every year.  This recording was from the 200th anniversary.  It has applications to countries and individuals alike.  After all society is made up of individuals, and no nation or community can be righteous except through its people.  What makes a country great?  What keeps (or doesn’t keep) a country great?  When we speak of freedom to what do we refer?  Freedom from what?  Freedom to what?  Comments

My prayer is that many will hear God’s Word through this sermon that is more relevant today than yesterday.  We do need to bend our knees before God seeking Liberty through God’s Laws.
