#Want and #need, do you know the difference?  If you put the wrong emphasis on verses like this you wind up with what is called a #prosperityGospel.  Like we talked about last week, the motive matters.  We don’t give to receive, we give to honor God and as a result we receive all our needs.  Have you ever prayed to God for a thing you thought you needed only to realize later that it was really a want?  Are all of our needs good things?  Do we sometimes need correction?  What does it mean when the Bible says ‘according to His riches in glory?’  Well, I haven’t met or heard of a rich man yet who can afford to create a planet full of biodiversity much less a universe.  Oh and don’t forget the qualifier at the end that Paul loves to use – in Christ.

Would the apostle Paul have been able to find #joy in the year #2020?  What did Paul learn from the #school of experience?  What did he teach us about our circumstances and their effect on Christ followers?  God promises to provide all of our needs but not our wants.  So how do we minimize our wants to increase joy?  Paul said he knew how to be content whether he had a little or a lot.  Is it also difficult to be content when you are prospering?

The LIVING GOD #COMFORT

Do you need #comfort?  My #wants and my #needs are sometimes intermingled.  I need comfortable shoes – I want an easy chair – I need a comfortable pillow – I want comfort food – I need and want God’s comfort...  “whatever was written beforetime was written for our learning, that we through PATIENCE and COMFORT of the SCRIPTURES might have HOPE.  Now the GOD of PATIENCE and COMFORT grant you to be like-minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus; that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  So receive one another as Christ received us to the glory of God.” Rom.15:4-7   “Now  may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us ETERNAL COMFORT and good hope by grace, COMFORT and STRENGTHEN YOUR HEARTS in every good work and word.”  2Thess.2:16,17
