I’ve got a #secret.  It is the secret to #life and #death.  But unlike other secrets and #conspiracies, it is a 2000 year old secret that does not depend on your membership in a #club or #class to be in the know.  Instead, it depends on you opening your eyes and ears.  Why would a well to do man travel long distances when he had a sick child at home?  How did he approach Jesus?  What is the purpose of suffering?  What lasts longer you or your troubles?  Many people ask God for a sign, but what did Jesus say to this man seeking a miracle?  ‘Believing is seeing’ will get you into trouble when it comes to human activity, but it is required with God.  How can putting Faith into action lead to confirmation?

If you have lived long enough, you have probably noticed that #suffering touches every one of us.  Why does #God allow it?  Can something good come out of suffering?  How does the Bible say we should handle these situations?  Where are we supposed to turn?  In this story, Jesus cautions us against a faith based on signs and miracles.  And yet, the man’s faith was rewarded with the healing of his son for the glory of God.  What was more significant, the healing of the son or the salvation of the man’s whole household?

Which Is Easier

I’m doing something a little #different today. Usually I bring you an audio message from Brother Tommy. Today the #Lord wanted me to share what He gave me from Luke 5:17-26.

Luke 5:17-26
Jesus Heals a Paralytic
On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal. And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God. And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”

When you read this passage, how do you answer Christ’s question? Which is easier to say your sins are forgiven you or rise and walk? Well much like his audience of teachers and Pharisees for a long time I would have answered that the unseen was easier. I can tell you your sins are forgiven very easily but to heal you, I would need physical proof. But Jesus knew that the physical was temporary and simple, but that to forgive this man’s sins He would have to sacrifice His own life. God cares about our physical well being but He cares much more about our eternal outcome. One of the most frequently asked questions is why do we have to suffer? If God took care of our every setback on Earth before we even asked, would we even see our need to trust Him? Would a child grow and mature if constantly sheltered and protected? Would we need a Savior if we led a charmed life?

Changed By Christ From Nobody To Somebody

Bible Audio Blog

Do you feel #invisible?  Does it feel like nobody #cares?  Are you #lonely?  This is a story about a woman in the Bible who showed faith in the right one and it changed her life.  This woman was weakened by twelve years of a chronic debilitating illness.  You may be able to relate to that now or as you age you will be able to understand later.  But, either way there is a lesson here for all of us.  Besides being at her wit’s end medically, what else was involved in her suffering and isolation making her a nobody in the eyes of society?  She heard about Jesus and what did she do about it?  While we are not saved by what we do, is there any effort that we must expend to receive the gift of Salvation? After being healed, Christ asked her to come forward, recognizing her as a somebody.  Why?

His Internal Ministry – The Pertinence Of The Holy Spirit – Giving Work Gifts

Bible Audio Blog

What is an #apostle?  Were they just the hand picked followers of #Christ or is the #HolySpirit still enabling Believers with the work gift of apostleship today?  I personally have a friend who has the work gift of craftsmanship.

Brother Tommy next details the work gift of faith and how it differs from saving Faith.  What about the gift of giving?  Is it only for the well off individual?  What is it about the gifts of healing that makes us unsettled?  Does God always want someone healed?  What do we need to know about the gift of leadership?  How about mercy?  Are there still miracles being performed?  Which gift refers to feeding and caring for the flock?  And finally, similar to pastoring but standing on its own is serving.  What is the reward for using these gifts properly?
