Basic Biblical Beliefs – The Saving Work of Christ

The book of John in the #Bible says that if all the works of #Jesus were written down that all the books in the world couldn’t contain them all.  But, what was His most important work of all?  Was Christ surprised by the cross?  What is atonement?  What did it have to do with the sacrifices offered in the Old Testament?  What are some other views of Jesus’ death on the cross expressed in the Bible?  What all does this saving work do in us?  The work on the cross was complete but then we were given confirmation with the resurrection.  What did we gain from that?  But, what is Jesus doing now?

Basic Biblical Beliefs – The Unique Person of Christ

What does #unique mean?  It means one of a kind, not just rare.  #Jesus Christ is truly one of a kind and He divided more than just the calendar.  What does the book of John tell us about Jesus’ transcendence of time?  How could Christ exist before the world and still come down to walk within this world?  I’ve heard many people argue that if God exists then He should show Himself.  He already has and was killed for His efforts.  But, that was already baked into the plan.  After His death and resurrection, what happened to Jesus?  What do we believe about his dual personalities of God and man?  It took both to accomplish God’s plan to reconcile us to Him.

Basic Biblical Beliefs – The Problem Surveyed And Solved

Last week, we talked about #sin and how it entered the #world.  What is the extent of this problem and is there a #solution?  When faced with an unsolved problem how should we approach it?  How is sin like an iceberg?  How does it blind and numb?  It also degrades and destroys.  What are the effects of sin both now and later?  Is there a God given escape from the guilt and penalty of sin?

Basic Biblical Beliefs – Public Enemy Number One

On the list of the #FBI most wanted, what should be the biggest threat to our temporal and #eternal safety?  It is something we all face on a daily basis.  Some deny it all together, while others downplay it and some even celebrate it.  Where and when did this enemy appear?  How does that affect us all daily?  Is there any hope of escaping the results of this enemy, has anyone ever conquered it?  In a few days, we will celebrate the birth of our hope, the Savior.  It is my prayer that if you do not know Jesus Christ personally, that you will make the decision to repent and believe in Him.

Basic Biblical Beliefs – From Collector To Benefactor

Can #people really #change?  How many #self-help books fill the shelves of the local book store?  And yet, the Bible shows us example after example of how Jesus Christ changed people immediately.  Do you realize how hated this man was that Jesus befriended?  Zacchaeus had teamed up with the oppressors to collect all the money he could from his fellow Jews.  How lonely do you think this man must have been?  Guaranteed, he wasn’t welcome in the temple.  How surprised would Zacchaeus have been to be called by name from up in a tree and get a personal invitation?  What was this man’s response?  That invitation is open to you and me, how have you responded?  How do we know that this wasn’t just lip service?

Basic Biblical Beliefs – What Is Man?

This is not about the difference between #man and #woman, which is clearly laid out in the Bible.  But rather, the bigger picture about what is #humanity?  #Humanism has risen up with an answer, but is it the right one?  We are made of dust, but is that all there is to us?  Once our physical elements have been formed what does God do to make us come alive?  Once body and God breathed spirit are combined, what unique third element is created?  Where do we place in the many creations of God?  In whose image were we created?  Since we are eternal beings should we not be more interested in where eternity will be spent?

Basic Biblical Beliefs – He’s Got The Whole World In His Hand

This truth that #God has the whole #world in His hands is more than just a song for #children.  Last week, we learned that God created the Universe but just as important, He sustains it.  If the Lord  didn’t maintain the Universe, it would fly apart.  The Bible tells us that He is responsible for our next breath.  What if God didn’t keep our climate in the narrow range of temperature we can withstand?  What does the term providence mean?  Why does God continue to uphold this world?  What are we to make of the natural disasters that befall us?  What is special providence?

Basic Biblical Beliefs – This Is My Father’s World

I heard a scientific commentator the other day say that if any of the constants we have discovered in the #universe like #gravity, the speed of #light, our #orbit around the sun, etc. were off by a decimal point, #life would not exist.  And yet, some people still doubt the existence of a #Creator.  God asked Job, where were you when I set these things in place.  Because this is my Father’s world.  How does His Word, the Bible, start off in the very first sentence?  What are some of the dangers involved in the alternative views of the origin of our world?  Was our universe designed with wisdom or a random process?  Ray Comfort says, “the building is proof of the builder, the painting is proof of the painter, and Creation is proof of the Creator.”  Why are we here?  Why does the Bible say God created this universe?  Did He know what would happen?  What was His plan from the beginning for our salvation?
