Characteristics From Characters

19820124pm Characteristics From Characters - Rev. Tommy Jones

A good book usually has strong #character development.  It may even employ the tool of #foreshadowing and #symbolism.  Well the greatest book ever written, the #Bible, is no exception.  What are we to recognize of ourselves in Adam?  What does Abel represent?  Who was Enoch and what can we learn from him?  What did Noah and his boat symbolize?  What about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph?  What do they show us about our walk with God?  When you put these eight characters together, what does it show us about the way we are to live?

Why Study The Bible?

Bible Audio Blog
19880529pm Why Study The Bible - Rev. Tommy Jones

Is the #Bible in your house well used?  Is it a #history book or even just a work of #fanfiction?  What other book has as much about life and beyond?  Why is it referred to as the Word of God?  How did the Bible come to be?  How did the contributors know when it was finished?  Does the Bible contain information for saving our eternal soul?  What about daily living in the meantime?  As Barbara says,’ the meantime can be a mean time.’  What is the problem with ignoring the Bible after a salvation experience?  What is the difference between sins of commission and omission, and how does the Bible handle both? How is the Bible the ultimate instruction book for Life?

Kiss Of Death

Bible Audio Blog
19860316pm Kiss of Death - Rev. Tommy Jones

What’s in a name?  How many people or places do you know named after #Judas?  That name has become synonymous with #betrayal and #hypocrisy.  What kind of person does what he did?  How was he perceived?  Who did he hang out with?  Why was everyone so surprised at his actions?  Was Jesus tricked?  What lessons can we learn form a deceiver in the midst of the disciples?  What is the warning for ‘religious’ people?  Did Judas have salvation and then lose it?  How can you be sure that you don’t get marked with the kiss of death?

How To Avoid Grieving The Holy Spirit

Bible Audio Blog
19860302pm How To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit - Rev. Tommy Jones

Who is the #HolySpirit?  How do we avoid grieving the Holy Spirit?  What does that tell us about the Holy Spirit that we can grieve Him?  What part of our #body tends to give the Holy Spirit the most grievance?  Hint: it is as sharp as a two edged sword.  Surprise, the Bible tells believers to get angry.  But, what kind of angry?  What is meant by sexual immorality and uncleanness?  What does ’separated living’ mean?

Editor’s note:  I took the liberty of changing this message title from the original ‘How To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit,’ because I felt this subject was more fully addressed in other offerings.

How To Face Problems

Bible Audio Blog
19860105pm How To Face Problems - Rev. Tommy Jones

So you think you have #problems?  Do you assess the cold hard #facts and then proceed?  That may be a good quality at work or in a few of your day to day decisions, but what is wrong with that approach to spiritual problems, or really any problem for a Christian?  When God asks ‘what is that in your hand?’ is He curious or is He reminding us?  What can happen when we let go?  What roles does our perspective play in the way things turn out?  How has previous experience taught us to face the future?

The Ground For Giving

Bible Audio Blog
19851027 The Ground For Giving - Rev. Tommy Jones

God doesn’t need your #money.  After all, where do you think it came from in the first place.  However, cheerful #giving back to God and our fellow man is a sign of what?  Most preachers don’t enjoy bringing up the subject of giving just because of the all too human desire people have to hold onto everything they can get.  I have to admit that it is a subject I avoid posting because it is not as eye catching as many of the other titles I have to close from in the archives.  But there are blessings to be gained from obedience to this command.  What does the Bible say about giving?  If you build a factory yourself, is it yours?  What about the goods produced when it is up and running?  If your factory gets confiscated, and you buy it back, who owns it now?

Here is the four part series of messages Brother Tommy gave on this subject.  See below for the other three parts.

Worthy Worship

19850324 Worthy Worship - Rev. Tommy Jones

How do you #worship?  First, what is worship?  What displeases God?  Conversely what does God desire from our worship?  Ask yourself, do you enjoy going?  Do you want to know what God wants?  Do you come with a repentant heart?  How about a thankful spirit?  What is required of us after the worship service is over?

Temptation

Bible Audio Blog
19850127 Temptation - Rev. Tommy Jones

If I was a true #Christian, I would not be #tempted to do this.  If my walk with #Jesus was closer, I would not even think about doing that.  What is wrong with these two statements?  What very important person was tempted like we are?  So if being tempted is not a sin and indeed inevitable, how should we handle it?  In what three areas was Jesus tempted?  Can all of our temptations boil down to these three categories?  Who should we trust?  What should we quote?  What power do we need to tap into?
