Christmas Brightness

Why do so many people #LightUp their yards, houses, and streets in December?  From #ChristmasTrees to #parades, light shows are everywhere this time of year.  Why are these lighting events held at night?  How dark was the world when Jesus Christ arrived?  Is there still a contrast between the darkness of the world today and the Light of the world?  In addition to the darkness of sin, what other things did the arrival of Jesus defeat?  The angels appeared to the shepherds in dazzling light with a message of good news and yet, the shepherds had to be told to ‘fear not.’  Why?  What can we learn from their response?

The Joy of Jesus – Triumphant Serving – As Experienced – Obediently

#Trust and #obey for there’s no other way to be #happy in #Jesus.  That’s a line from an old hymn we used to sing all the time.  These days, we are being asked to obey a lot of sources, sometimes conflicting.  If you are in sync with God’s law , you will not be in conflict with man’s law except when those man made laws are immoral.  But, what does the Bible say about obedience?  Should we obey out of fear or love?  Which of these has a more consistent outcome?  Can it be both?  What does Paul mean when he tells the Philippians to ‘work out’ their salvation with fear and trembling?  Hint:  think miner.  Also, fear of what?

The Joy of Jesus – Available For Calculation – Matter of Profit and Loss – When Loss Becomes Profit 2

#Fear, that is the message the world is bombarding us with daily.  And yet, the Bible tells us do not be afraid.  Why?  Because #God has a plan which involved sending His son to us to die for our sins and we only have to trust and obey to be saved.  When the disciples were in the midst of a storm in the book of John chapter 6, Jesus calmly walked to them on the water, no less, and said “it is I, do not be afraid.”  If you will put your faith in Christ, He will do the same for you.  Then you can have the joy of Jesus that Paul talks about in Philippians.  Brother Tommy aptly describes the salvation experience as a crisis followed by a process.  If Paul was not through with the process of being improved, where do we stand?  Is there joy in striving to attain the goal of perfection?  What is the one thing we need to know?  Paul often likened the Christian life to a race.  What happens when the runner doesn’t know where the finish line is?  How about if that runner is constantly worried about previous hurdles and looking back?  What do we know about the prize for this race?

The Person Who Pities

Last week, we learned why we should always give #thanks.  This week, we will learn what happens when we ignore this advice and start down a path of #self #pity.  We tend to think of biblical heroes as perfect, infallible, or at the very least happy and enthused.  But, are they?  Elijah was a great man, a prophet, one whom God loved and still he found himself dejected under a juniper tree.  What toll does it take to serve the Lord and bring truth to people?  Is a Christian life going to be easy and bring popularity?  What happens when we lose focus on the important things?  Does God speak to us in the chaos of current events?  Who do you trust and who do you fear?  Is it possible that there could be more going on than we can see right now?

The LIVING GOD #LOVES

“The #good, the #bad, the #ugly, the #lovely” – all are His children – created in His Image!  How can I ever understand the depth of God’s love for us that He would lay down His own life to pay for our sinful acts of defiance toward Him; in other words, taking our punishment to set us free..What love..1John3 “Behold, what manner of LOVE the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of GOD:”  7.”Let no man deceive you; one that does righteousness is righteous, even as Christ is.  He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sinned from the beginning.  For this purpose the Son of God was revealed that He might destroy the works of the devil. 1John4 ” Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him, and he in God..GOD IS LOVE; and he who dwells in love dwells in God and God in him.  Our love is made perfect in Him, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.  There is no fear in love; for perfect LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR.”. .   3. “Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:….. he that knows God hears and knows the spirit of truth from the spirit of error…let us LOVE ONE ANOTHER; FOR LOVE IS OF GOD...He that does not love does not know God; for GOD IS LOVE”
