The Blood Atonement

Bible Audio Blog
19880117 The Blood Atonement - Rev. Tommy Jones

Why do #Christian #churches preach and sing so much about #blood?  Because, the #Bible puts a great deal of emphasis on blood.  But why?  How are shadows similar to our understanding of God?  Is there a right way to worship?  If there is a right way, doesn’t that mean there is a wrong way?  What was wrong with Cain’s offering compared to Abel’s?  Blood offerings throughout the Old Testament are a foreshadowing of what event?

Grappling with Guilt

What is #guilt and how does it affect us?  How does it affect those around us?  Is it  a problem for Christians as well as non-Christians?  How does the conscience relate to guilt?  Where do we get our ideals?  What happens when we fall short of those ideals?  What are the three different kinds of guilt?  What is the difference between the state of being guilty and the feeling of being guilty?  What is the position of Science versus the Bible on the matter of guilt?  What are the responses to guilt?  Which one is proper biblically?

Next week we will look at what the Bible says about depression versus what science has found.

How To Cure Snakebite

Bible Audio Blog
19860928 How To Cure Snakebite - Rev. Tommy Jones

#SnakeBite, why would you want to know this unless you had been #attacked?  This is not a message about handling #dangerous #snakes.  But, what if I told you that we have all been bitten by this one old rotten snake?  First, what are the symptoms?  Take the Israelites in the wilderness, what was so distasteful to God about their behavior?  How are we different today?  What’s God’s answer to their rebellion?  How about ours?  What is harder, following Christ or not following Him?  What is the law of sin and death?  So what is the cure for this fatal bite?  Back to the Israelites for a minute, why didn’t God answer their petition the way that they wanted?  How does the snake symbolism change in this story?  Is there more than one cure for snake bite?  This cure is simple and yet so many who are in danger of dying refuse it.

Grace To Sustain

Bible Audio Blog
19830821pm Grace To Sustain - Rev. Tommy Jones

Have you ever gotten in a #badmood because you were having a #badday?  Who hasn’t?  Today, I had to apologize to my grown children for my #attitude about the way things turned out.  I had planned a reunion to celebrate birthdays and I was being plagued with what appeared to be inconveniences.  In my lack of Faith, I forgot that God has it under control.  How much better would my witness have been if I had praised each setback as it occurred?  If only I had posted this blog about 24 hours earlier.  By Grace through Faith, we are saved.  But is that all that Grace does?  How is Grace given out?  How can it help us to avoid sin?  What about trouble?  Can Christians avoid trials and tribulations?  Is there a purpose for this?

The LIVING GOD #CHASTENS

How does God’s #LOVE correspond to His CHASTENING?    Chasten is defined by Webster as correcting by punishment; discipline – to purify or refine by freeing from faults.  Psalm 94:12 “Blessed is the man whom Thou dost CHASTEN, O LORD, and teaches him out of Thy law”  I think Hebrews 12 gives us additional understanding on perfect love.  “do not regard lightly the discipline of the LORD nor faint when you are reproved by Him; for THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES  EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.  We had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?  For they chasten us for a short as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good that we may share His holiness.  Now no CHASTENING for the present seems to be joyous, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, will it yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” Isaiah 53 tells us of the Father’s chastisement of our sins covered by His son, Jesus’s perfect love.  “He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we ourselves esteem him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted,  He was pierced through for our transgressions,  He was bruised for our iniquities; the CHASTISEMENT for our well being fell upon Him and by His scourging we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”   What does Revelation 3 say to us?  “As many as I LOVE, I REBUKE AND CHASTEN;  be zealous therefore, and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock;  if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.  To him that overcomes will I grant to him to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne.”
